OK, I heard that Google was taking pictures of a bunch of places. I even heard a co-worker comment on the picture of her street, so I know it’s real. But I only actually saw it last night.
Three of us – me, North Vancouver, one from Bracebridge and one from Montreal – all typed in our addresses and zoomed down to street level.
Holy mother of shit! That is amazing!
That… is… impressive. (My address is 829 Baycrest, if you care. I will go wave from my living room window for you).
Not technically, really. Organizationally and financially. Did GOOG pay someone to take a picture of my house, along with, presumably, more or less every house in North America? Or did they rely on volunteers? Either way, an amazing feat of logistics.

I thought this youtube clip was really funny after looking at streetview.

There is a Google truck that goes around and takes pics of streets. They are only allowed on public property and are supposed to blur out faces and license plates.
Have you also heard that Google is going to have a GPS system that they are going to offer for free? I have yet to see this, but this is definitely going to put companies like Garmin and TomTom out of business.

I really really want an Android 2 phone right now. And apparently that is what the app comes with. So the GPS on the android 2 phones would have turn by turn based driving instructions.

Yah, I would love to see an Android 2 phone in person. You should get one so the rest of us can play with it

I can’t believe you bike all the way downtown from there.

BTW, thanks to GC I got to try Google Wave.
It’s a really cool mix of email and instant messaging. I imagine it’ll be an extension to jabber protocol eventually.
Anyway, my friends and I are still trying to figure it out – I sort of instinctively use it as IM, but because of the threading function it gets messy real fast.
Drop by and check it out! I totally think it’s the future of email – more instant and collaborative.
